Barking Berry’s Fun Dog Show 2015

On Saturday, myself and my mother took my dog Marnie to Westhoughton Central Park to attend this event. The annual charity dog show is hosted by mother and daughter duo Sarah and Scarlett Berry. I think hosting fun dog shows and companion shows is a really good idea for fundraising for charity especially if funds go to dog charities.

There were lots of stalls from different charities including local, breed specific and national dog rescue centers. Other charities I was happy to see having stands were Lucky Hens in Wigan who I follow on Facebook – they rescue battery hens! and Caged Northwest an organisation who protest against the dog races helping protect greyhound welfare. Other stalls included lots of crafters and independent shops and businesses who were catering to dogs and humans, I saw lovely collars, coats, scarves and bags for sale.

I entered many tombolas and Marnie entered a lucky dip, we were sure to visit Many Tears Rescue at their stall as I know they rescue lots of ex breeding bitches from puppy mills.

We also purchased Marnie some treats, dehydrated fish skin and sweet potato from a vendor and some hand baked dog cheese cookies Scarlett which she had baked herself.

There were other things to do too, have a go archery and a bouncy house for kids and lots of tasty food. Teatime Collective from Hulme provided yummy vegan burgers and cake. I chose a chickpea and sweet potato burger. Marnie had a go at flyball with ‘Jumping 4 Joy Flyball’ who operate in Bolton and Salford and was told she was a natural flyball dog which was great, I think she had fun partaking.

I also visited a stand ran by my friends at Bolton Vegetarian, Vegan and Animal Rights group to say Hi! ,they were spreading the veggie message to visitors like at our outreach days.

Overall it was a lovely day and It was great to hear that it raised  £1,088 for Dogs Trust Merseyside and £1,088 for Homeless Hounds along with giving all the other stalls present a chance to raise money. If you are interested in following Barking Berry’s on Facebook then here is the link –
